The sector project started a joint initiative for strengthening groundwater into approaches of integrated water resources management in Africa. The AGW-net was established to increase awareness of the potential and value of groundwater across the continent and to contribute to capacity building in the groundwater sector in Africa.BGR supports the African Groundwater Network (AGW-net) with the development and implementation of training courses in groundwater management.

The long term objective is to establish the African Groundwater Network (AGW-Net) as a competent partner and player in groundwater management in Africa. As a result of the Capacity Development Initiative, a training program for the integration of groundwater into the management of basin organisations was developed in cooperation with African and international partners.
